saw a show at the last minute after checking ohmyrockness.
i first looked at shows at club midway since i live next door and didn't expect shit except crappy hair metal bands or unknown metal/metal bands but the picture on the website showed some blond chick as the frontwoman.
well, that deemed a second click and, in turn, warranted a myspace search of the band name. wait, that's not completely accurate, i checked wikipedia first before i even wasted time listening to the band.
anyway, i read on wikipedia that the frontwoman was the former bassist of world/inferno friendship society, not a band that i followed at all but at least i heard of. and since the commute time was 10 seconds i felt the time was ripe. these situations don't come along often.
anyway, 45 minutes after their scheduled set time (the one written on the chalkboard outside the venue), they went on. they weren't bad at all, which in my book means they were fucking great, and they had a decent following as well so the show had some nice energy and turned out to be pretty decent, well worth the $8 ticket price. sheeeeet, $8 is a fraction of the juice for some of the shit i've sold on stubhub, arcade fire being a recent example. no, wait, rage/rock the bells. that was ridiculous. i sold 1 ticket for 230 and it didn't come from ticketmaster in time so i bought another one from stubhub for 190 in order to fill the order.
i ended up about breakeven but motherfuckin stubhub made off like a bandit, scalping both sides (15% on my end and 10% on the buyer's end) twice for the same fucking 1 ticket.
no wonder ticketmaster is suing them. I tipped off that little choice nugget to brooklynvegan right when it broke but unfortunately he didn't give me credit for it, the bastard.
granted, the guy has given me plenty of props for some ticket onsale news in the past but i don't see the justification in this case, simply b/c it was written by reuters and not me. in this lame blogging age, it's all about speed, not about sources. that is all.

p.s. i have some unpublished interviews with the heads of stubhub, ticketsnow and razorgator that i'll put up one of these days once i find the audio and have the time to rip it...
