Just got back from watching "Top Dog Underdog" at the Ambassador on Broadway and 50th. That was a pretty good play, I must say. It's a two-man show, minimal set. I like. Don Cheadle isn't in it anymore which sucked cuz I heard he was the shit. Instead, Mos Def played his part and he did a pretty good job. He just doesn't have the stage voice, though. It was like he was up there rapping instead of enunciating his words. Jeffrey Wright, the actor that played the other guy, I guess just made Mos Def look bad. Cuz although he could still affect a street accent which the role calls for, he managed to do it in a way that everyone in the audience understood. These are subtle things that Mos Def isn't ready for. Also, some of his character's depth did not come out through Mos. His inexperience showed, but the crowd really vibed well with his considerable charisma.

He certainly has stage presence, and has good comic timing. But he needs the whole package. I really liked Jeffrey Wright, he was on point.
